My video ROY G. BIV Dailies from Here GOES and SUVI, 2024 will be on view.

What color is the sun? Since the sun emits all light it doesn’t always need to be yellow or orange. ROY G. BIV Dailies from Here GOES and SUVI is part of an ongoing exploration into how we depict energies which are essentially invisible to us. We adapt instrument data collected outside the range of what we can see with our eyes and transform it into our sensory range, and in so doing we have the opportunity to be subjective in how it is seen.
For this video, images of the sun at different wavelengths in the ultraviolet spectrum are combined in RGB channels to create color images, which are combined sequentially in an animation. The images for ROY G. BIV Dailies from Here GOES and SUVIare sourced from Here GOES Radiotelescope (Heidi Neilson & Harry Dove-Robinson), an independent ground station artwork which receives all of the data from the weather satellite GOES-16. Here GOES Radiotelescope is on long-term view at Wave Farm Art Park in New York’s Hudson Valley. heregoesradio.com
